THE JOURNEY TO ZION
Leading Scripture; Psalm 84
-
- We have died, and we have been resurrected with Christ. And Christ is leading the second exodus. He is leading a pilgrimage to Zion. We are on our pilgrimage to Zion.
- Christ said to His disciples, “where I am, I want you to be there.” (John 12:26). Christ is in Zion; His desire is for us to be with Him in Zion.
- In this world we are but just passing through, we have a permanent home; “Zion.”
- Psalm 84, is one of the Zion Psalms, and its also one of the Pilgrim Psalms.
- Zion, more specifically mount Zion is where the Pilgrims met their God, to offer acceptable praise to the Lord.
- The journey to Zion is for those who are of God (the saved/redeemed). For those who love God, for God Himself first loved them (1 John 4:19).
- Long for God, make Him your worth and thereafter goodness and mercy shall follow you all the days of your life.
- Make Zion the center of your thoughts, it is where you belong. “For where your treasure is, your heart is there also.” – (Mat 6:21)
- In this journey God doesn’t forsake anyone. Even the sparrow and the swallow (Ps 84:3), so how can he forsake man?
- God embraces all, He doesn’t forsake anyone and Christ actually called for us by saying “Come to me …” (Mat 11:28)
- The Journey to Zion is a joyful journey, a journey of praise and singing. Galatians 2:20 says “It is no longer I who lives but Christ lives in me.” Therefore, it is a journey for those who sing praise to the Lord for their salvation.
- In Hebrew, ‘Baca’ [בּכא – baw-kaw’], means “weeping”
- Sometimes, the Journey to Zion is a journey of weeping, pain, sorrow, etc.
- But the Holy Spirit gives us strength even when passing through the hard times.
- Baca is not there to prevent us from seeing God in Zion.
- We might be facing different types of “baca” but it’s not our destination. Our desire should be to see God in Zion.
- David said “though I walk through the valley of evil (even ‘Baca’) I’ll fear no evil”
- Those who trust in the Lord, ‘Baca’ will not deprive them from their strength. Even the psalmist says, “they will go from strength to strength.” – Ps 84:7
- Brethren, we are on a journey. And what the Lord requires of us is to stick to Him until our agenda is achieved, for our purpose is to see our God in Zion.
