Wisdom and Prayer

Leading Scripture: Proverbs 1:20-33

  • Wisdom has been illustrated as a woman
  • The ‘woman’ wisdom is calling people to fear God
  • This is the call of God, as God is the one that gives wisdom (Prov. 2)
  • The epitome of the wisdom of God is Jesus Christ
  • Wisdom should be evident in your daily lives

In Proverbs 1:22, three people are being called to have wisdom, the;

  1. Simple
  2. Scoffers
  3. Fools

Simple

  • Simple, from the Hebrew word Pethı̂y (peh’-thee), is a person who is not serious about his or her life
  • Such, who pretend to listen but do not understand
  • They are easily carried away by any wind
  • Mostly young people

Scoffers

  • Scoffer, from the Hebrew lûts (loots), are those that are proud and don’t mind the things of God
  • They mock God and God does not have a place in their hearts
  • They don’t believe in God
  • They mock Heavens
  • A fool says there is no God and therefore indulge in evil behavior

Fools

  • Fool, from the Hebrew word kesı̂yl (kes-eel’), are the people that have confidence in their own wisdom
  • They make their decisions independent of God and others
  • They are Mr-Know-it-All
  • They neglect advise
  • They are wise in their own eyes
  • They are dependent on their past successes

Ø  Many people seek God when things go wayward

Ø  If you want God to be there for you tomorrow embrace him today

Ø  Wise living is to embrace God for he is the giver of wisdom

Ø  May Christ be established in you so that you live in all spheres of life

Don’t be a ‘simple’, ‘scoffer’ or ‘fool’ embrace Christ
