A WATCHMAN DISCERNS SEASONS
Leading Scripture: Ezekiel 3:16-19, Matthew 3:1-6
If you are called by God for His duty, He doesn’t want to you to play.
If you are appointed for a duty by God, you’re required to do what you are appointed for.
When we read Isaiah 51:6-9, Ezekiel 33:2, 6-7… we find some of the duties of a watchman.
DUTIES OF A WATCHMAN
- Hear The Voice of God. (Ezekiel 3:17)
- As a watchman, you ought to hear the voice of God and do what He wants you to do and not what you want.
- Warn The People (Give The People a Warning) About Dangers Ahead
- As a watchman standing on the watchtower you see things from afar.
- When you see natural dangers coming you need to warn the people “so that they are alert and might not go astray.”
- If you do not warn them, and dangers come and destroy them, you’ll be accounted responsible for that.
- Keep Himself Alert & Report Whatever He Sees.
- Where do you need to report? You are to report to God!!! The dangers you see might be issues troubling the world, as such you need to present them to God knowing He is your boss.
- How do you report? We report to God through prayer.
- If you are in an office and you never report your duties, you might be in trouble of being sacked
In the Church, as we are, how do we alert the people? Do we preach to those that are trapped in sin about its dangers?
Remember, we are the house of Israel, We are in the Office of God!
As a watchman, you should be very careful. You should never mess-up (get involved) with the pressures of this world. We are to resist sin and warn people about its dangers.
If you are in this office faithfully, the first issue you consider is your security then that of others. Which is to say, “If you are not faithful in the sight of the Lord, never can you serve others faithfully.”
John the Baptist is one of the good examples of a faithful watchman. He was a forerunner of Jesus Christ. He came to prepare the way for our Lord JESUS!
– – – Just like in the world today, before appointed leaders come to a place a delegate is sent to prepare the way of the leaders. – – –
John was a man who ministered in a remote area, knowing the gospel is to be preached to everyone regardless of their location or status.
He preached in the days when the Scribes and Pharisees also preached, but unfortunately they (the Pharisees) preached what they did not practice! They were hypocrites.
In this season, He (John) discerned the seasons… It was a hard time for him but yet he stood for the TRUTH!
A watchman called by God is covered by His Glory. He is anointed to even reach-out to people in the wilderness.
During this Christmas festive season are you ready to preach even in the remote areas? Are you ready to reach-out to everyone regardless of their status?
It is sad that even in the Nkhoma Synod today, the ones called men of God get to deny to go and minister in the remote (rural) areas. Giving unjustifiable reasons for their denial. But don’t be like that!
Discern the seasons, preach to everyone regardless of their location or status
